It seems this weekend will offer up perfect weather for two big local events on Saturday and Sunday in Mansfield /Storrs and Tolland. Food, music, games and parades are all on the agenda north an south of the UConn campus. The fun starts at 1pm on Saturday in Tolland and ends Sunday at 4 pm at Storrs Center in Mansfield.
Celebrate Tolland Festival/300th Anniversary Picnic
Saturday, September 19th 1-8 pm. Celebrate Tolland’s 300th anniversary with the Celebrate Tolland Festival Picnic. The picnic starts at 3pm after the parade and runs until 8 pm. The 12+ town parade starts at 1pm and features the 1st Governor’s Horse Guard, local sports teams, scout troops, antique vehicles, local businesses and more. Shuttle buses are available from the commuter lot, Crandall Park and Tolland High School to and from the parade and the picnic. All surrounding towns are invited and encouraged to attend. The Festival features German, jazz, bluegrass and country music, games, vendors, a car show and vintage baseball games. The Tolland farmers market will be on the green from 9-11:30 and Arts of Tolland Craft Show on the green 10 -4.
Bring your appetite, food vendors include the Lions Club, American Creamery of Tolland, Little Mark’s Big Barbecue of Vernon, Monet’s Table Restaurant & Catering of Tolland, the Rockville Exchange Club, Papa T’s Restaurant of Tolland, and The Country Butcher of Tolland. Food choices include: fried dough, ice cream, pulled pork, brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs, Jeff’s Kettle Corn, vegetarian wraps, and vegetable soups, sausage and pepper grinders.
Celebrate Mansfield Festival
The annual Celebrate Mansfield Festival takes place Sunday, September 20th from 12 noon to 4 at Storrs Center. The parade, featuring puppets, animals, sports teams, clubs and bands kicks off at 12 noon. If you are planning to attend, get there early, Route 195 will close at 11:45 for the parade and reopen after it is over. There will be Indian food, Japanese food, pizza, ice cream and other treats and great music by Tuesday Saints, Pearl and the Beard & Kidsville Kuckoo Revue. More info and schedule here.
Activities include a magic show, sculpture tours, cooking demonstrations, appearances by the UConn men’s and women’s ice hockey and field and track teams. UConn volleyball players, local business booths and more. Don’t forget the fracking waste ban petition will be there as well for those of you who have asked where to find it and sign it.
