In Storrs Center development news: the Wall Street Journal reports that EdR, collegiate housing developer & manager, plans to use some of its proceeds from a recent equity offering to fund the fourth phase of The Oaks on the Square at Storrs Center. The fourth phase will provide an additional 200+ 1,2 & 3 bedroom apartments and are reportedly 100% leased. Once complete in 2015, the Oaks will be owned and managed by EdR and the commercial space will remain in control of Leyland Alliance, LLC master developer of Storrs Center. See full article here.
I did visit Square Fair on a Friday evening in July to check out the event and to have dinner at Storrs Center. Geno’s was quite busy, outside tables were to capacity. Dog Lane Cafe was also busy and well staffed; there is generally no waiting at Dog Lane Cafe. You are waited on promptly, in fact, they are usually waiting for you to make a decision. 
The Square Fair had a few painters displaying their works, plenty of jewelry artists and vendors , a weaver, and a couple of vendors offering handmade soaps and lotions. Music for the Fair was provided by WHUS. There seemed to be a fair amount of people milling about. I have not attended before so I don’t know if the attendance was on par with the previous Square Fair.
There was a mix of young families, grandparents, professionals, and students and quite a few very young children which meant Insomnia Cookies was very busy! Square Fair is 5 to 9 pm on the fourth Friday of the month through September. Don’t miss the next Square Fair on August 22nd!
