Two of three tenants have signed leases for the 5,000 square foot commercial building at the junction of Storrs Road and Charles Smith Way adjacent to Price Chopper according to Hart Realty Advisers, Inc who purchased the completed phases of commercial space at Storrs Center on behalf of Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds.
Hair Cuttery and Wingstop are expected to open in the first quarter of 2015.
I have had many people ask me if I knew who was renting space there and speculate about who the new tenants may be. These tenants make sense given the demographics and age group.
Hair Cuttery has over 750 salons in 16 states and according to their website will offer convenient, professional service and products, no appointment necessary.
The Storrs Center Wingstop franchise will be opened by the owners of the Moe’s and Mooyah’s franchises at Storrs Center . Wingstop has over 600 locations nationally and internationally and according to their website will offer wings, boneless wings, chicken strips and a variety of sides. The addition of Wingstop is in keeping with the general trend of quick moderately priced fast food that would be expected offerings on a college campus.
Hart Realty Advisers are seeking an additional tenant for the space and report that they are currently negotiating with several potential businesses for the remaining space.

Still to open this fall is Bruegger’s Bagels, Jamba Juice and ThinkitDrinkit.
Another 35,000 square feet of commercial space is expected to be added by the end of 2015 along with the start of the “Main Street Homes” condominium development of 40-45 units, which I hear is slow going on reservations and interest.
